Once again, author Sharon Steuer and her team have gathered a thoughtfully edited collection of artwork and techniques that showcases the creative possibilities of Illustrator and how to realize them using the program's powerful arsenal of tools. Updated for Illustrator 10, this edition holds new transparency lessons and covers, in detail, how to construct images with live Pathfinders and Compound Shapes; how to work with envelopes, warps, and symbols; and more. Some things never change: Each chapter still includes lush, full-color galleries of the contributing artists' work, and the accompanying CD-ROM holds the actual files behind many of the works found in the book so you can pick them apart and follow along, plus custom Wow! actions and brushes, clip art, demos, and other Illustrator goodies that you can add to your own virtual studio.

There are better books out there:
I found the book was lacking in precise step-by-step instructions. It didn't include graphics on the CD to work with. It used a narrative style to discuss what should be happening in each exercise. For example, rather than saying "Effect/Path/Outline Object" it would describe the outcome but not the exact method of getting there. It also liked to spend a lot of commercial air time time blah blahing people who contributed posters and graphic design elements (who cares who did them?) but not explaining how... more info
Wow indeed!:
From the ground up, this book presents real-world design projects which emphasize the use of each tool in this complex program. The result is an effective, logically based, and almost intuitive skill in all... more info

There is skill building lessons in the book and on the CD with tons of example artwork. The book is layed out in such a way as build your skills as you go or jump in where you need specific expertise. The artwork... more info
