while books on the craft and science of playwriting are a dime a dozen in the market, this is probably the one and only book that teaches the ART of playwriting. forget all about those books that teaches you the formulas to write or compose a play, because playwriting is not a science but an art.

Michael Wright's book offers you a jillion different exercises to stoke your creative furnace. It is a manual that I use for my intermediate-level playwrights to work their playwriting chops. I just finished teaching a two-week intensive playwriting course in which a combination of novices and former self-proclaimed failures at playwriting were asked to complete a ten-minute play. The course was a success, mostly because all of the students actually completed a draft of a ten-minute play.
