There are two books all women should read (men can benefit, too!) as they begin their life's journey--or are stuck along the way: He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys and Eat, Pray, Love. Eat, Pray, Love is wonderful: funny, enlightening and inspirational. I loved this book. I related to so much of what Gilbert went through and wish I could have taken the journey that she took--even for a little while. She is a very brave woman.
Disappointed:
If you want to follow the travels of an incredibly narcisstic individual then this book is for you. If not, then I suggest passing it up. The author comes across as shallow and self-serving, especially in the divorce of her husband. I would love to travel to Italy, India and Bali. However, I wouldn't divorce my husband and abandon my family to do it. Finding God and understanding yourself comes from true soul searching, sacrifice, and commitment. I can't leave my job and my three children to travel the world for a year with my $200,000 book advance, so how am I supposed to find spiritual enlightenment or whatever it is Miss Gilbert found? I can believe that other women of Miss Gilbert's privileged class would identify with this book and take it to heart. After all, they can emulate Miss Gilbert's experience and mirror her self-absorption. But are there really so many women (and possibly men?) who identify so... more info
