After buying more general writing books, I've greatly enjoyed the Elements of Writing series as my first try at depth of knowledge instead of breadth. Conflict, Action, and Suspense was no exception. While it still covers a variety of areas, it focuses on using them to best effect. It lays out the tools that will need to be mastered with examples of them in action. This is not the first or last writing book that you'll ever need, but it is a solid piece of any collection.
This books should have been called "Exclamation points! Italics! Cliches!":
The title is misleading - I didn't get what I paid for. This is a book that claims to offer enlightenment on elements of conflict, action and suspense without actually engaging in any of those topics. Instead we hear about melodrama, soap operas etc with some very cliched and tired tidbits on dialogue and short, choppy sentences (which anyone with basic writing ability knows anyway). Be warned, the author's definitions of these elements are vastly different to what you and I may define as conflict, action... more info
Excellent:
Kudos to Mr. Noble. I found this book to quite insightful and well written. It has tremendous information and examples so very well explained. A must for anyone who is writing a story or screenplay. It could be considered a blue print for success.

Through step-by-step instructions, Conflict, Action and Suspense reitarates a great deal of practical ideas on how to develope your storytelling ability.
