Very helpful book:
I bought the first addition of this book and learned page by page and did all exersises. I am experienced MS Access user, so it was easy for me to understand the material. After learning this book I began to work with manufacturing program that uses Crystal Report as a report writer. I cannot say that I immediately was able to create a new report, but I was able to modify existing reports, so they could better accomodate my company's requirements. fair - but better have som advanced tech background:
definately not a basic thing. I still find it easier to do queries in SQL, and then put in excel to prettify. SO the book wasnt that good :)
An excellent investment:
This book is particularly good for people who've worked a lot in Microsoft Access and who are just making the move to Crystal Reports because the author is extremely familiar with both applications. I've since added a second Crystal reference to my library, but this book's a great place to start as you're learning Crystal syntax and how Crystal 'thinks'.
A little less than adequate and a little more than annoying:
While admitting that this book does have some utility, I would be quick to add that it seems to have been crafted with little thought for the end user. The primary problem concerns the examples. Im all for learning by doing, but the methods used here create more headaches and hassle than a solid understanding of the program features.
