Paralegal is a bad career choice:
I gave this book one star, not because I read the book but because I used to be a paralegal and came across this book when ordering books online in preparation for my career change. I would strongly recommend against any profession in the legal arena unless you want to become an atty. Working for attys is unpleasant to say the least. The hostile environment of a law firm is stressful, and I've seen a few legal secretaries go out on stress leave. Seeing a law staff member cry at work is not unusual.... more info
The Writer's Bible:
I first read about The Elements of Style in Stephen King's On Writing (which I highly recommend). King recommended The Elements of Style as the last word on the rules of writing. He was correct. The book is short, concise, and answers any writing issue you may have. I noticed a significant improvement in my writing after using it as a reference manual. Whether you are a writer, editor, student, or blogger keep it next to you while you're writing! -Jenn Astle
The best "How to Write" book ever written.:
Elements of style--should be required reading for every freshman, high school or college...All of the rules in one tiny book.
Elements of style - Good reference for any writer to keep around:
When going through this book, it became quite evident how much the english language, both spoken and written, has changed in the past 80-90 years. Still much, if not most, of the content is applicable and it is a very good reference. I would agree with the NY Times when they said, "Buy it, study it, enjoy it..."
