There Are Better Books on The Ascent of Money:
The downfall of this book is it is not a financial history of the world but an abbreviated antedotal review of the most recent bubbles mixed in with previous bubbles that have no relation to a historical review of world financial history. The first sentence epitomizes what you will read, a rehash of other more scholarly works that more accurately portray the current financial mess in relation to past financial history. History of Dinero:
We are all experts when it comes to money (or at least real estate), but none of us really knows much history. For if we knew the history of booms and busts, bonds and equities, risk and insurance then we may all be a little less likely to jump into the latest bubble, and a little more likely to question our own "expertise".
