When a written document reaches its audience, it needs to be word-perfect because spelling, grammar, and overall structure speak volumes about a writer's aptitude. Most standardized tests require that test takers write an essay or complete a short written section. It is important that writers take the time to learn how to find and eliminate misspelled words, correct grammar, and organize thoughts.

I bought this thinking it would give me some guidelines on editing and proofreading (as in, what I should know to create a polished piece of writing before submitting it). Instead, I got lists which reminded me of when I studied for the SATs years ago. I understand that grammar and punctuation are important, however if that is the main thrust of this book, it should be mentioned in the title, so that potential buyers realize it is all they will be getting.
Excellent book for technical writers and proofreaders:
I bought this book in conjunction with "Writing Skills in 20 minutes a day". By far, these have been the best two books I could have bought. These books will help you understand the basic of proofreading your work, avoiding common pitfalls and overall improving your writing. This book is well developed, comes with medium-difficulty exercises and "to-the-point explanations". I would highly recommend this book for any writer, business communicator or ESL student.
