The powerful cartridge offers instant access to 2.6 million entries in German and English, including 275,000 headwords and phrases; 1,369,600 translations, inflections, grammatical entries, and phonetic spellings; and 1,000,000 advanced verb conjugations. As a result, users can write and speak effectively in either language without bungling certain verb tenses or grammar rules. The entries are culled from Pons Worterbuch für Schule und Studium, one of the most respected German-English dictionaries available.
To use the advanced verb conjugation feature, the user merely enters the verb and tense in one language (e.g., "I learn"), after which the DBD-3040 determines the correlating phrase in the other ("Ich lerne"). The device even corrects for irregular conjugations, so you don't end up with a confusing, mismatched phrase that will stop a German reader in his or her tracks. Add in a grammar guide--which offers a ton of essential information on German grammar rules--and a phonetic spell checker and you have a terrific sidekick for your German language instruction.

It's a good and convenient product for my Franklin SCD-1870. However, it would be better if it had come with some type of back cover/case for the cartridge for when it's not installed in the SCD-1870. Having back covers/cases for the cartridges would prevent scratches or dirt from getting on the exposed contacts when lugging them around while traveling (we're not even supposed to touch the metal contacts with our statically charged fingers). good and helpful dictionary:
I enjoy this dictionary in reading German literature. I find it very helpful. I am only sorry that there is no button for the verbs conjugations on my bookman model and therefore I cannot use this feature.
Handy plugin:
This plugin works reasonably well and has very complete definitions. There are lots of examples and it that works well for those of us with a mid level of German. Not all of the menues are tranlated into English after selecting the language, but that isn't much of a problem. The biggest problem is the it is not very secure in its holder and resets the whole Bookman if it is pushed the wrong way. That is likely a Bookman problem and not just this cartridge.
