This is a pivotal chapter from my forthcoming book, A Dash of Style: The Art and Mastery of Punctuation. In the book, I aim to discuss punctuation in the broadest sense: how has punctuation been used (or not used) by the great literary masters, and how can it make you a better writer? Punctuation reveals the writer. And punctuation never lies. This chapter is emblematic of the book in that it offers a close look at the paragraph and section breaks, two punctuation marks which are normally not thought of as punctuation marks--and yet they are two marks which, in the right hands, can enhance your work tremendously.
