Weak!:
I just received this item. It arrived damaged...not from the shipping but from the factory. The reason being is that it is not rubber wood as it suggested, it is particle wood overlay-ed with a piece of rubber wood. Thanks for the piece of garbage Amazon!
Pretty good for the price:
I was looking for a second bookcase to go in my spare room. Few people will see it so I didn't want to spend too much. Here was my criteria: * Should be sturdy enough to hold large, heavy books
* Should be easy to put together
* Should look nicer than something that you buy at a discount store

Sturdy and pretty:
We use this bookcase in our kitchen to house our microwave, toaster oven, and misc. pots and pans. It has held up really well, and has been very sturdy so far. The color is rich and dark and the slats on the sides make it attractive and not too "bookcase" like, so it works well in the kitchen, or in other non-traditional places or uses. My only knock on it is that the screw holes are exposed, and it takes two people to assemble.
Very Pretty Bookcases, Look expensive but aren't:
Unlike another review, I am impressed with the quality of the lacquer and the wood. They're very pretty shelves, hold a ton of books, and look great in my Arts & Crafts style home. I think they'd look great in almost any decor, though - Asian, modern, minimal, even country if you order a lighter color. I love how dark the espresso finish is - almost black, but with a little brown. I also like the open back (it has back support bars to keep books from falling out).
